Jackets

At Vallgatan 12, a curated selection of jackets from established and contemporary brands brings together classic silhouettes, modern proportions, and carefully developed materials. The range includes leather jackets, suede jackets, bombers, trench coats, overshirts, quilted styles, parkas, and technical jackets, with variations in length, fit, construction, and detailing.

A jacket’s silhouette is influenced by its length, shoulder structure, sleeve width, and fit. Shorter styles such as bombers and boxy jackets create a more concentrated silhouette, while longer styles such as trench coats and parkas provide greater coverage and a more enveloping outer layer. Overshirts and lighter jackets can be worn as layers between a shirt and outerwear, while lined and padded styles are designed for lower temperatures.

The choice of material has a significant impact on a jacket’s feel, function, and intended use. Wool and wool blends are found in warmer styles, contributing insulation and structure. Cotton, canvas, and gabardine are often used in lighter jackets and workwear-inspired styles, while nylon and polyester are common in technical and weather-adapted constructions thanks to their durability and low weight. Leather and suede provide durable surfaces with natural variations and can develop a patina over time.

Leather jackets and suede jackets are available in several classic and contemporary constructions, from shorter styles and bombers to more generous overshirts and longer silhouettes. Leather has a dense and durable surface, while suede has a softer, napped surface that requires more careful handling. The quality, thickness, and surface treatment of the material affect the drape, comfort, and how the jacket changes with wear.

Padded and quilted jackets are constructed with an insulating layer between the outer fabric and lining. The insulation may consist of down or synthetic fibres, with the thickness, fill, and channels of the construction affecting heat distribution and freedom of movement. Quilting keeps the insulation in place and can also become a prominent part of the jacket’s visual expression. Lighter quilted styles work as transitional garments, while heavier padding is suited to colder temperatures.

Technical jackets are developed with a particular focus on weather protection, freedom of movement, and moisture transport. Water-repellent surfaces can be treated with DWR, a surface treatment that causes water to bead and run off the outer fabric. DWR, however, is not the same as a waterproof membrane. Technical constructions may also use membranes, taped seams, and windproof materials to contribute to the garment’s overall weather protection, so its properties should be assessed based on the construction as a whole.

Details such as collars, hoods, cuffs, pockets, zippers, buttons, and adjustable finishes affect both function and silhouette. The placement and construction of pockets can provide practical storage, while a high collar or hood can offer additional protection from wind and weather. The fit must also allow sufficient room for movement and the layers worn beneath the jacket, particularly in styles intended for colder weather or physical activity.

Proper care is important for preserving a jacket’s material, fit, and function over time. Wool should be aired and cleaned according to the garment’s care instructions, while leather and suede require products suited to each material and should be protected from heavy moisture. Padded jackets should be washed and dried according to the manufacturer’s instructions so that the insulation retains its volume. For technical jackets, it is important to follow specific washing instructions, and the DWR treatment may need to be reactivated or renewed when water no longer beads on the surface.

Vallgatan 12's selection of jackets includes styles where silhouette, material, and function come together. From leather and suede jackets to bombers, overshirts, quilted styles, and technical constructions, the category offers different expressions and functions for the season’s varying needs.
